(The Meaning of) Blog, Blog, Blog............. Blog! :)

We are a family of bloggers.

First was Tammy, (a place she is accustomed to taking :), followed by Abby and Jessima, and finally, Me.

We check each other's blogs, leave kind messages, or complain with indignation if someone hasn't written anything for a while.

But - What's in a blog? I haven't quite figured that out for me yet. Or this question: Is blogging an essentially useful endeavor in which (for me) to be engaged?

I can, of course, see what other people's blogs are about, and I do appreciate them, very much. Jessima's often has photos of her little family, which I love to see, and news of what is happening in her family and in her life. Tammy's is a way of staying in touch with friends overseas and at home, and a conduit for social connections. Abby's so far seems to be a combination of wit/life stories/journalling/missionary work/ and complaints book! - always an interesting read :) Kaili's is largely an avenue to show her art talent, and connect with others of a similar interest. Breckon's is a family scrap book and outlet for her writing talents...

I enjoy reading all of your blogs! I'm grateful that you take the time to update them. I really appreciate it when you (all four of you! :) leave messages on mine. It makes me feel... loved!

So I guess 'The Meaning of Blog' doesn't matter too much for now. I'll work it out as I go along. Perhaps it is enough to know that They are here, and are apparently friendly... :)

  1. Blogging is the way I will record our history. I include everything, but I figure the entries people aren't interested in they don't have to read, so I don't feel bad at all. Our adventures, the just plain things that happen, the results of what I spend my time on, what our favorite food is, what we look like, and the things I think about.

When it is in the budget I am going to publish my blog (through blurb.com--they have the best prices and the nicest looking products.) I'll buy a copy for my house, and for my mother's house, and if it is really in the budget my child (or children if its not in the budget until then.)

I think its important that we find ways to share our talents, the happiness we have in our family, our faith, our inspirations, and blogging is the easiest way to do it. I look forward to getting to know you better through the blog so when we finally make it to Brisbane it will be like reuniting with a family of old friends, instead of just Tammy (although Tammy is worth a trip all by herself.)

  2. Breckon! I thought nobody but family ever read my blog! ( I did wonder when I saw your picture as a 'follower' though :)

I smiled when I read that you don't feel bad about anything you choose to write :) Good for you :)

I really enjoyed reading your excellent comment. I'm thinking about copying your first paragraph and somehow (if I can find out how to do it, and if you don't mind?) post it at the top of my blog page as a kind of mission statement! It's purposeful, but broad enough in scope to allow enough freedom for most anything! :)

I have considered the 'everyday family journal' as a very valid objective of blogging, particularly because you do it so well. Tammy has told me that you planned to publish your posts in the future, in order to keep a permanent journal record. Because of that, I have been printing out my posts and keeping them in a folder, although they have hardly been worth keeping, I suppose, as haphazard as my direction has been :) Not to worry - baby steps are fun to recall too!

I didn't know that you can have blogs published professionally! I think that would be a great idea with your blog in particular - you post such wonderful photographs, and such newsy and well-written comments. (What do you think about publishing them from your home computer and then having them bound?)

I know that Abby has been particularly keen to share her life and joy in the gospel through her blog, as we have been encouraged to do in recent times. I think that you are probably aware of the story of the Nienie Dialogues:

    - It is inspiring to consider the potential reach and power for good of as simple an exercise as keeping a humble family blog.

I do hope that you manage to get to Brisbane someday! It would be such a pleasure to show you around and shower you with all the Aussie hospitality you can take :) What a treat it would be for Tammy!

Thank you for your comment! It made me feel happy - which is evidence that we don't even have to write a full blog entry in order to have a positive impact on others :)

  3. I think a blog can be whatever you want it to be :)

But I always keep the 'journal' thing in the back of my mind.

    xo Tammy
