My Birthday

It was my birthday on Monday, and I had a lovely, lovely day!

Neil took the day off, as he does each year. I hadn't been well, so I didn't even try to open my eyes til about 9am, then still stayed in bed until after 11am. Neil brought me some breakfast that Tammy had prepared, then read his scriptures for a while, while I ate, and we enjoyed chatting and reading together.

I finally managed to get myself up and dressed so that we could head out to do some shopping in the afternoon. Neil had surprised us all a couple of years ago by turning things around and giving each of us a gift on his birthday! I loved the idea, so he and I have each done the same since then.

We'd had the missionaries over for dinner the night before, on Sunday evening, (I hadn't wanted to cancel it), and had enjoyed a very pleasant evening with them and with all the rest of the family too, including Michael and Bec, who can't always come from so far away. For my birthday all the family was coming again, which meant that I had 13 gifts to buy, and only a few hours to do it in - but Neil helped me and we were able to get everything I had wanted to. I'm afraid that we were really too extravagant - but we kept reminding ourselves that it was my birthday, and that this was what I enjoyed the most, so... :)

We snuck the parcels in while the children, led by Tammy, were preparing dinner in the kitchen. It was so nice to come home to everyone together, including Michael and Bec, and to be met with beautiful flowers, delicious smells, and all the happy sounds of our family.

After a yummy dinner and an FHE lesson by Neil, we participated in the activity, which was present-opening! I was given some perfect, thoughtful presents from everyone, which I love, (thank you!) before we finished with a birthday cake made by Jessima.

Lovely!

  2. Birthdays are always fun! I'm glad that you had a wonderful time and that everyone was able to be there. It is the best feeling to have everyone you love in the same room at the same time!

  3. Happy Birthday!

I love your idea of giving things away on your birthday. Lots of joy-spreading in that. My mom used to give her mother flowers every year on her birthday. I always thought that was a lovely gesture.

  4. Happy Birthday again!!! :) We all had a lovely night also, thankyou for having us over!!! I'm glad you liked the cookies too, and I would love to cook them together sometime, as long as we bond as well and then eat some together :) My blender (I don't know what Bethany could possibly mean, you were totally extravagant!) has been sitting on the high bit of my bench for the last 3 days, where it will stay a bit longer while I admire the box, and all the features it points out and suggestions it makes. This morning James said 'I thought you'd want to take it out and play with it!' so I told him I did, but I needed a couple of hours of free time and some ingredients before taking a step like that. Also, I am enjoying looking at it and knowing it's there! Thankyou! I'm glad you liked your Birthday, they should always be enjoyed! You are a wonderful mum and I love you to bits. xoxoxoxox PS: You are also going to be an amazing Grandma! Whenever Jenna sees you she looks at you in a special way - you can tell she knows you just adore her and she's waiting for you to see her and get all excited and give her cuddles and love. I'm excited for that look on our baby's face too! xoxoxo

  5. Happy birthday! Mine is on saturday. Someday I hope to be as good a mother and think about what my children would like for my birthday...but for now I am terrified that I am going to loose MY birthday to this soon-to-come baby. And then I started to get sad about even the possibility of spending it in the hospital this year. I've got a ways to go... I hope I can make the switch before my children are old enough to remember.

  7. Well Chickybabe, I had a great day on your birthday too. It was a really nice day. My only wish was that you would have a really enjoyable day and my wish was granted. It seemed like the nicest birthday I can remember. I don't know, there was just something extra special about it. I love you. Only 357 days until your next birthday.
