I would just like to share this with somebody:
The wonderful music of 'Il Divo' is playing through the ceiling speakers, currently accompanied by the 'plop..plop' and 'drip..drip' of rain water coming in through the leak in our roof, falling through the space where our entry-way ceiling used to be, and landing on the polished floor a few feet from where I sit, relaying this damp little drama to you!
The plasterer just left. He had come to replace the storm-damaged panel in our ceiling, but decided not to continue after he and I both discovered that the leak has still not been fixed. The discovery was a little more exciting for him - he had just removed part of the ceiling when it began to storm outside and he was suddenly liberally showered by rain whilst indoors! The roofer promises that he will be here on Monday morning at 7.30am, but I think I am losing my confidence in him... he was going to be here yesterday. And on Friday, without fail. And the Wednesday before, barring death or war.
So the painter who was booked for 7.30am on Monday will no longer be able to start her work then . (Yes - apparently a 'she'.) And the carpet cleaners coming on Wednesday may now be in the way of the painter when, (if ever) the work is ready to do.
Abby's baby shower is on next Saturday. (Please hold the puns.) Hmmn! Oh-well.
On the up side :
'Il Divo' has been followed on the player by the beautiful voice of Sarah Brightman.
...So maybe there won't be a roof over our heads... :O
Maybe the house won't be ready for the baby shower in time... :(
But at least... there will be music!
:)
ps I also had a very pleasant chat with the plasterer before he left - I believe it had something to do with him suddenly finding that his very booked and busy day was a dud after-all. I was able to hear about his outing this morning to a V8 car track, where he and a mate had enormous fun, racing their cars at 270 miles an hour (I think that is what he said. - He also said that he would have stayed there for longer if he had known what awaited him at our house.) I learned about the time he and a mate went parachuting, (he loved it :) and about a dare he took for $50 from a mate (!) - to swim across a shark-infested lagoon on an island somewhere! He (my plasterer) had a snorkel and fins, and the water was only a metre or two in depth, but the sharks were so thick in the water, that he could barely use his fingers to swim along without hitting them. They were right in his face and brushing against him as soon as he put his head underwater. They were only reef sharks, and no longer than a couple of metres each, but still! He had a little underwater camera, and took shots (very close-up!) of them all the way across, with the sharks getting more and more agressive all the while. Whew! Rick (my plasterer) has a few sons who are turning out just like him too, no doubt to the delight of his real-estate-selling wife.
Rick will be back next week. I hope. I wonder if he would bring photographs....?

LOL this post is hilarious, my favourite bit is your PS - Rick sounds very interesting, I love that he wanted to share these wonderful experiences with you :) Sounds very brave, and like he's probably caught some very big fish. THe roof in the entry way (or lack thereof) is a little bit interesting. Even I noticed it, so it's obviously a big change. We could cover it with a little pink curtain for the baby shower? :) Thanks for posting, I've missed reading 'you' :) xoxox
ReplyDeleteThat's really funny mum :) (I would have written 'hilerious' but I don't know how to spell it, and this comments section doesn't allow for spellcheck... Something I'd change if I was in charge of the world! Or even just in charge of Google Blogs...)
ReplyDeleteRick sounds a bit 'out there'... Hopefully he doesn't realize his dream of swimming with crocodiles and great whites until AFTER he finishes plastering our ceiling.
Speaking of which, it does seem just a 'tad' ironic that he's all for swimming with the worlds most dangerous preditors, but he had a problem with plastering in the rain... oh well, to each his own (or in the case of the painter 'her own').
Hopefully everything gets done in order next week! Maggie-shower here we come!
xo Tammy
PS. Lovely to finallly HAVE another post from you!
ReplyDeleteYou poor thing. I hate it when things don't go to plan. It really annoys me. Especially if people say they are going to be somewhere at a certain time and they don't turn up. Lucky for me I haven't had much experience with that yet, but hopefully I won't have to do it anytime soon.
ReplyDeleteHope this week isn't too stressful for you.
Tammy, it's spelt 'hilarious' ;)
ReplyDeleteHahaha, i like this post mum. very positive in light of annoying-ness!
I had a big talk with Rick when he came back and i'm totally jealous. Even his 10 yr old son has a motorbike! i want one! but he gave me all this info i need to go to one of those racecar days and get to learn to ride a motorbike and race the cars :D :D i'm so doing it after christmas!
...they don't check to see if your licence is valid do they?? :S :S
he's an absolute psycho for swimming with the sharks though.
