Well, I am here, bowing to public pressure to write a blog entry. I should just go and write it on my own blog but I do not know how to get into it. Anyway, it is Tuesday 1st December here, about 10am. We are at the home of Steve and Kathy Smoot. Yesterday we left thr Armstrong Mansion around 11am and head down to temple sqaure. After find ing a place to park we walked there stopping at a little souvenior (spelling) shop. There were a lot of T Shirts with all sorts of writing on them. The boys really enjoyed reading them all. We went to the Joseph Smith Memorial Building just in time to see the movie, 'Joseph Smith - The Prophet of the Restoration'. It is still a tear jerker. Ben and oliver trying to man up and head back a dry tissue, but we know they were touched by the spirit. It is hard not be with such a story.
After that Ben, Oliver and I went to the Lion House and Beehive House for a tour while Chickybabe went to ... see if you can guess .....no not the visitors centre, ...... no, not to the cinnabon shop, .... no, not to the welfare centre, ..... no, not to the Church History Museum.. OK I'll tell you because you'll never guess. She went to the Deseret Bookshop. I know, I know, that came out of left field. Who could have guessed that?? Now here is something that will really knock your socks off. Sandy came out WITHOUT a single book. Let me give you a moment to recover.

Feeling better? Need a little longer? Take all the time you need.
We ate at the Lion House Pantry Reataurant, which was nice and homely. We left Salt Lake then and travelled north to Centerville where we went to a Walmart to get a couple of things and then came further north to Kaysville to the Smoots home. We experienced another little "woopie daisy" moment. This time we didn't 'nearly' turn into the left side, we actually did. I use the term 'we' to help share the burden. I have to admit that the three passengers in the car were extremly quick to notify the driver that he needed to go RIGHT!!!! RIGHT !!!! RIGHT !!!. I am thinking that I don't have to turn right for three miles. Oncoming traffic helped me to realise what they were talking about and the situation was expertly and instantly rectified without any harm done (unless you think soaring blood pressure is harmful).
We had a lovely night with the Smoots. They only have Jenny and Ashleigh at home, but Ryan dropped by with a mate and Matt and his wife and baby dropped by as well. The Smoots asked after all of you and wanted to know all that was happening in your lives and send their love. W e had a nice dinner and talked a lot and caught up with their lives. We played UNO. The only reason I did not regain my world UNO champion title is that I never had it in the first place. The other reason is that I didn't come anywhere near first place. I could have if I wanted too but I was worried about the sensitive feelings of the younger players.
We have had a lazy morning so far and the twins are about to go up to Jenny's high school to have a look around and the we will be on our way to see more stuff.
So that's it for this entry. Check us out tomorrow. Same Bat time, same Bat channel.
Love to you all

Dad just had a quick look and told me, "no one has posted a comment yet!" So here I am :)
ReplyDelete...I'd just put in a couple of overseas orders from Deseret before we left Brisbane :) And I want to look around at all the options - Seagull Books, etc. Any requests?
Dad was very cool and collected throughout our near-death experience, considering! He's doing wonderfully well with the driving.
Bec - why were you diving into the road? :)
Love to all. You are in our thoughts and prayers every day. The Smoots send their greetings and love. Their family are all looking wonderfully well. When we asked after Steve's parents, he told us that all of his parents' eleven children and fifty one grand-children are active in the gospel. Isn't that wonderful?

Yay Daddy you wrote a blog!!! :) It's just 7am here so everybody must be asleep - of course checking your blog is what I do first (before I even eat!), so I'm sure other comments will come soon! Fun to read, sounds like you are having a fabulous time!! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that Joseph Smith movie, it's awesome. I love the twins, they're funny. I just read mum's comment and the whole her walking out of Deseret books with empty arms now makes a LOT more sense! I have an order - just everything, please :) James says there's a book by John Taylor called 'Mediation and Atonement' that he'd love. I can't think of anything specific, I just love everything :) I wish we had those bookstores here!!!
I am very impressed with your coolness about your joint near death experience, and it sounds like you corrected quickly. I've done the same thing on Vulture Street in the city - turned the wrong way onto it. I only noticed I had because when I got to the traffic lights, none of them were facing us, and THEN I saw the oncoming traffic. Lucky it was late at night and there wasn't too much of it.
I remember your attempts at Uno - Jenny and Ashleigh's triumphant comments are still in the Family Book of Mormon the Smoots gave us! I didn't know Matt was married with a baby that's great!
Cool that the twins get to go to high school to check it out - it is soooo different! At Jill's, they all go home or to the shops for lunch!
Better go to school, hope you're continuing to have a fabulous time! Love you lots and miss you all heaps :) xoxoxox
Well Bishop it seems as though there are two of us that are succombing to outside pressures. Abby wanted me to write to make you feel better so here I am. Well Bishop my immediate thoughts are that you are on holiday' and to me holiday means that you do what you like when you like, so if you feel like you wanna post some blog entry awesome, if you don't then don't. So basically I think you shouldn't surccomb to anything you don't want to. Its easier for me see, I am not on holiday, but if I was you wouldn't see me surccombing... anyway I think it would be better to hear your travels all at once instead of in drips, more exciting I think, but you should write down key events to help you remember what to recall when you get back.
ReplyDeleteWell sounds like you guys are having heaps of fun! thats kool, Even though I don't write I am thinking bout you guys and hope you are safe in your travels.
Love heaps
James

PS. Loved the post - wish I could write more but have to run! :( Will write a better comment soon!
Hahahaha, that was funny. And I'm sure the person with the highest blood pressure was you, Dad!!
ReplyDeleteOh and mother - I was never fooled for a second. As soon as I read that you came out with nothing my first thought was 'well of course not, I bet she ordered it all!' I know you well methinks ;)
Though mum i don't really understand why you would forego the Cinnabon shop!
OH! I've just had a brilliant idea. I'm going to make some Cinnamon rolls! (Except i just checked and the recipe's a little confusing. There are things in it that I haven't had a chance to learn from you yet! eek :S such as 'mix, scald and cool milk'. I don't really understand! I mean, i have ideas, but no firm knowledge! Oh, well, I will guess :) If i get it wrong it will at least make for a funny story :))
Well i have to go make some buns and do other household thingys. Don't worry mummy, i have everything under control :)
PS. they ripped up our driveway yesterday :( ...and it's still ripped up lol
Anyways love you all!
Glad to hear about everything!!
Keep having a fantastic time!!!
Love bethy xoxox
Hey, It's Jonny. I don't think i've ever done a blog comment, so this is very exciting for you!!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you are having a great time! Before i forget, Jessima wants you to go back to Deseret books and get her one about controlling a psycho child. Ok, just kidding, that one is for me (Jessima can be a little crazy sometimes!), she would love anything to do with homemaking, being an awesome Mum (not that she needs the help!)
Ok, i'm with Bethy on the cinnamon buns. Looks like i'm gonna have to come and visit bethany, although i'm not sure how it'm going to get to the door if there's no driveway!!
Well, just a bit of news i guess i should tell you guys. I'm now a 4th year dental student. I got my results yesterday and passed everything. I was a little nervous, so i was up at midnight last night for when the results came out. unfortunately, so were about 40 000 other people, which meant an epic failure of the website. I managed to get on at about 1:45am and to my relief, i passed everything. To my surprise, i even got a 7! I didn't think i'd ever get one of those again but yay!! I also got 2 6's and 3 5's. Overall a pretty solid effort i thought.
Well enough about me. Dad, stay on the right side of the road and keep blogging, Mum, go shopping again. You're on holidays, do what you like! Ben and Oliver. I think you should blog too. Hang on, now it sounds like i think everyone should blog except mum. That's not the case, I just didn't have anything else to say to the twins. I think you should all blog. Have familly blogging sessions!!
Anyways, i'm off now. If you check my facebook, you can see all of the Hamilton island photos. (well about 50 of them anyways.) You should look and leave some comments!!
Take care and have fun!
Love Jonny, Jessima, Jenna and Jac....
PS - Jenna just had another tooth poke through. It's not in the right order, but it's something!!
Oh, I meant when I was over there last year...darn tricky to calculate exactly how close those orange thingys are to the side of the car!!
ReplyDeleteGood to hear you all survived another day...heads up Bishop: keep your body in the centre of the road, that way there'll be no confusion :),
Some good news is that so far Im passing my block - on the 3 exams I've had so far, I've gotten 98, 78 and 100% (although on the last one I actually got a little more than 100% because I'd factored in a calculation, but the teacher had forgotten it!!).
No more news here...except Michael's got a tummy bug - so a warning to all - BEWARE OF MICHAEL!! LOL! (Just kidding husband) but he is really sick so just in case he's contagious, please steer clear :)
I LOVE the Desert Book store!! But sadly, I just ordered 2 days ago...but thanks very much for the offer :)
Gotta go back to class
Travel Safe!
Bec

Bec
What's going on what are you up to now??? Love you all heaps, can't wait to hear from you again, hope you are having the time of your lives! Had dinner with Tam, Beth, Jug, Jess, Jen and the missionaries, it was lovely. Miss you xoxox
ReplyDeleteI think you guys must have died, because there is no more posts :( Or you guys are having way too much fun that your days are way to full!!! Oh well.
ReplyDeleteJenna has changed over the last week. She has way more energy, more happy and very active. She is climbing more and is always making sound effects. I know its normal for boys to make sound effects, but girls generally don't do it. Plus she is talking heaps more.
Well, keep having fun and don't get too cold!!!
Love Jessima
Are you dead, mun?
ReplyDeleteLike to kiss my lucky egg?
Should we start planning your funerals? Or are you all still alive?
